Postmodernism Key Words part 2


Enlightened - one who seeks the truth, realness and is free from prejudice and superstition.

Structuralism - The central basic concept of structuralism is the concept of structure itself. The structure is a set of relations independent under various internal and external transformations. Any structure, meets the condition of integrity(completeness) - the subordination of the elements to the whole and the independence of the latter. Structure acts not simply as a stable "skeleton" of the object, but as a set of rules, following which structure acts not simply as a stable "skeleton" of the object, but as a set of rules, following which, from one object we can get a second, a third, etc.

Poststructuralism -  The main difference between poststructuralism and structuralism lies in its rejection of the concepts of structure and system, of structuralist universalism. It also weakens the antisubject tendency of structuralism, somewhat restores history and man - as an individual. Poststructuralism, denies sociality, focuses on the spirit of contradiction, emotion of doubt, criticism of the subject.
The search for structures is carried out in different areas of culture: language, literature, social studies, art and phenomena of mass culture.

Ahistorical – Contradictory to history; not taking into account the dynamics of historical development.

Irreducible – not succumb to simplification; ”interesting”.

Objective - independence from the human consciousness, from the will and desires of people, from their subjective tastes and preferences, it is something what is given with evidence that it is difficult to refute.

Transparent - сlear, self-conscious, self-aware, "enlightened".

Universal – absolute, one that possess many, diverse skills, abilities, knowledge.

Definitive - unique, one of the kind.

Reflexivity - Deep analysis, thinking of one's own judgments, feelings and thoughts.
The Unreliable Narrator - In the case of an "unreliable narrator" there is a violation of an implicit contract between the author and the audience(readers). This contract describes the events occurring in the book as they are ( events will develop successively). In other words,  the narrator provides incomplete or inaccurate information to his/her readers.

The Enlightenment Project - A complex of fundamental ideas, that developed in the Age of Enlightenment, was named the project. These ideas are characterized by individualism, critical attitude towards traditions, political freedom and freedom of conscience.

Fixed -  not changing with time.
